Red Scarf Project 2007

My on-the-go stash-busting charity-knitting project for the last few weeks:

Pattern: LMKG's Cashmere Scarf -- it just a very simple rib pattern
Yarn: KnitPicks Andean Silk, cranberry. This yarn is super-soft and makes a perfect scarf. This is the third scarf I have knitted with this yarn, and would do it again!

It is for the Red Scarf Project, for inclusion in care packages for college-bound foster kids. Check out Norma's blog dedicated to the project to learn more and to see lots more fantastic scarves.

And in honor of our 200th post here on XRK, I have 4 balls of this gorgeous yarn I am willing to give to a lucky reader, as long as you promise to use it for the Red Scarf Project 2007. It truly is perfect scarf yarn, but I just don't have enough time to knit a second scarf between now and the deadline in January.

Leave your promise in the comments, winner chosen at random!

I wasn't planning on signing up for another KAL, but if it's for a good cause like this one, I wouldn't mind doing some overtime.

You encouraged me to see what I have in my stash. The only red I could find is in Cotton Ease. Do you think that would be warm enough for a scarf?

What a lovely scarf!

Thanks for the reminder. I need to knit another scarf or two for RSP07.

I would be thrilled to get the yarn to make another scarf! I'm working on one at work... could definitely use another "on-the-go" commuter project soon!

I promise to knit another Red Scarf for the Orphan project with this yarn if I win the contest.

Great scarf Liz! I'm casting on for the RSP07 this week. And I truly love the Jawbreaker from your previous post!

200 ... wow, who knew we had so much to say?

I am working on my Red Scarf now, but would love to make another one with the yarn you are offering. It's such a good cause.

Is that Cartridge Belt Rib or Mistake Rib? It looks really good, whatever it is.

I've been looking for some red yarn good enough to wear around the neck so I can knit my Red Scarf contribution up. If I win, I promise to knit it into a scarf for the project.

It is awesome how many Red scarves are being produced. I have already done one and plan on doing some more. Here is a link to the one I did http://strings-n-strands.blog-city.com/red_scarf_gloves_and_more.htm
I would like to a chance to win the yarn for another red scarf

I just finished 3 scarves out of Andean Silk and I love it. I've been loooking through my stash for red for the Red Scarf Project but can't seem to find any. I'm on board with the Project. If I can get some free red yarn, all the better.

I have my red scarf started- must get back to that! Yours looks great!

That's a stunning scarf. Brava! I just ordered yarn for two more scarves, though, so I'll pass on the drawing.

Sure, I'd knit a scarf for the project...your yarn beats anything I've got! :-)

I'm knitting a scarf now, but more red yarn for scarves is always good. I'd knit more with more yarn.

Your generosity has encouraged me to commit to knitting for this cause.

Such a lovely scarf! I'd love to knit up a red scarf with that yarn:D

Just wanted to remind people that the scarf doesn't need to be red just gender neutral. So if you have some nice green that could work as well.

I would totally knit a scarf for the Project if I win. Then the 2 balls of red alpaca I just ordered could be for me ;-)

Love that scarf! And I'd be happy to knit another scarf for RSP7, especially in that yarn.

You supply the yarn and I'll supply the knitting time for the project. Found you from Norma's blog. I don't have my own blog, but I read many

Oooh - I've knitted with that before and it's lovely stuff. I've made one Red Scarf so far and have been looking around for more red yarn so I can knit up a bunch more, so here's hoping!

I have yarn for one red scarf, and would love to make another -- in January, when my holiday knits are done.

A scarf I can manage... I'm on a charity knitting kick right now... yours is beautiful.

Please sign me up, too! I made a scarf for the Red Scarf Project last year and I was just learning to knit and didn’t truly have an appreciation for fiber (read: I used acrylic – ugh). I would love to make another scarf for the project.

Beautiful scarf and great color. If I win, promise to make a scarf, along with another.

I started my first red scarf tonight (in between more baby hats for Save the Children -- almost finished with those for now). I'll be taking it along when we fly from DC to Miami Sunday -- better be able to get the 24" bamboo circ through security at National -- and work on it next week -- finish it while we hug our grandson. I'd love to use that wonderful yarn for another scarf.

I would be honored to knit a red scarf for the rsp07 with your red yarn.

Just finished my first scarf and would love to do another one...especially with someone else's yarn. lol

I'm definately gearing up to start a red scarf! I'd definately make one with that yarn. Your scarf turned out so lovely!

I'd love to make a red scarf. Can't find any scarf-ish yarn in my stash and can't buy much till Jan. Maybe too late. Throw my name in there, will you please?

Procrastiknitter said...

Absolutely! I'm already in the project, but I promise to use the yarn!

Sara said...

Nice thing you are doing...the project is so very worthwhile...

The scarf you knit is just beautiful!!!

If it's not too late already, please put my name in the hat as well. I don't have anything suitable right now and I can't buy much, so it would give me the opportunity to contribute to the project. Thanks for giving more people the chance to contribute!

I've been wanting an opportunity to knit something awesome for a good cause like RSP07! Pick me! I work full-time with college students... I'd love to make a beautiful scarf for a student to enjoy. :)

I am very interested in charity knitting. I would definately knit a red scarf for your project. I would like to start a group that would like to knit for elderly men, especially Veterens. They seem to get lost in the shuffle and they are always cold. I thought a simple vest pattern, lap robe or scarf would be appropriate. I'm just getting started with this and have quite the stash myself. Any ideas please e-mail me at

I am starting now knitting hats and scarves to donate to hospitals this winter. I would like to be lucky enough to get some of this yarn to knit with. Plus I will donate to wherever there are people needing some scarves. A good cause is enough to get me knitting.
