Single Skein Update

I have a friend with Raynaud's disease, so despite our 90 degree temperatures today, it will soon be getting cold, and once her hands get cold, they just don't warm up. She mentioned this to me last winter, and like any reasonable knitter, I knew she was the perfect candidate for some arm warmers.

Pattern: Dashing, Knitty, Spring 2007
Yarn and Needles: 2 balls Mission Falls 1824 Wool, US 7
Mods: I knitted a few fewer rows for the hand and thumb. I love MF yarn, but the yardage is sucky (85 yds) and I was concerned I'd run out of yarn.

I didn't run out of yarn for the Dashings, but I was left with just a few yards left. I didn't have such luck with my Fetchings.

It really frosts me to have to buy another ball of DB Cashmerino Aran to finish just a few rows and knit the thumbs, because I'll have a bunch left over. Perhaps I'll buy a coordinating ball and make a Center Square Hat or something to go with it. Sort of defeats the whole Single Skein September idea, doesn't it?

It hasn't been all Single Skein September knitting, though. I'm just about finished my Molly Ringwald corset-vest-top. I'm making the little cap sleeves now, and should have an FO by the weekend. If only it would get cool enough for wear a wool vest.

I can't wait to see the Molly Ringwald top... I have looked at it a couple times myself! Your Dashing's are beautiful! I am sure your friend will love them.

The vest looks like it will be fantastic. The Dashing's are lovely as well. I think I may have to knit some myself.

The yardage IS sucky on MF, which is too bad, because I really like their palette. The dashings are lovely, though--I may have to make some for myself this winter.

What I learned last year with the Fetchings: 3 Cashmerino balls=2 pairs. You could always do another for a gift too, if you decided against the hat.

Love the dashings. Great job on them. I found I had the same problem with my fetchings. I decided to hold onto the slightly used ball of yarn and recently made a baby hat from it for a client. Yay!

I can't believe that the Fetching pattern is even written for one skein--has ANYONE ever managed it? That pattern even calls for a picot bindoff, a huge yarnsuck. I shortened mine a bit in order to have enough for both. It's definitely annoying to get a whole new ball.

The Dashings are really nice!

sorry I've been so absent. I think fall has kicked my knitting interest back in though :)

Those are awesome! Can't wait to see Molly - I love that top! I sadly still haven't casted on for my fingerless mitts yet!

You are really rockin the Single Skein!

Love the Le Slouch and the Calorimetry too.

You're doing such beautiful work there! I totally love both fingerless mitts, especially the Dashings - they look so warm and cozy! And mind you, I can't wait to see the Moilly Ringwald top! Happy Knitting!

The Dashings are well, quite Dashing!!! Your friend will love them and what a special gift.
You've got me tinking single skein projects and I've got some Mission Falls to use up!

The Molly top is going to be cuuuute! Grrr on running out of Fetching yarn. I don't know anyone who managed those with one skein of Cashmerino.

I'm thinking I like Dashing better, though -- might have to make some this year...

That's a bummer you ran out of yarn - I may have a little left from a project, I knit a sweater out of black cashmerino aran. I'd be happy to check for you if you'd like. That way we're both getting rid of leftovers and you won't have to buy anymore.

Your Dashing's are great, though I must warn you (as someone with Raynaud's) the parts that get insanely cold are the finger tips : ) I'm thinking about making myself some thrummed mittens this winter.

I had the same thing happen with my Fetchings -- except all I had left was on thumb!

Fantastic knitting! Love the dashings, I used a substitute yarn for my Fetchings, but I still had to nix the picot edging to have enough yarn.

I really like the color you've picked for that top. It's such a sweet pattern, but in pink it's maybe just a little TOO sweet? In the color you're using, though, it balances out perfectly.

Your various wristwarmers look great! Is there any way you could knit the last few rows in a contrasting color (using something from your stash) so you don't have to buy a new ball?

I am working on the fetching now and bought 2 balls just in case. My girlfriend is doing it too and it took her EXACTLY 1 ball. It is wierd. I hear it vary from knitter to knitter.

I will definitely do my Dashing with some MF yarn!

I have some leftover Cashmerino in orange and hot pink, but I'm guessing that's not the look you're going for?
I've never been able to knit that pattern with one skein, either.

You're rockin' the singles, baby. And can't wait to see your Molly Ringwald!

Gah. Is it the end of September already?! I've had to lay aside my SSS projects for an impromptu baby blanket for a knitting buddy and family drama...but I will return to them in October. Hmm, catchy acronym time...how about SOS? That describes my life at the moment to a tee.

Thanks for hosting SSS!
