My First Socks

So I finished the socks yesterday! I quite enjoyed knitting them (after bailing on the Simply Lovelies) but I don't like the way they fit (a bit big) and the yarn is not very comfy. I used Wildfoote sock yarn -- how does this compare with other sock yarns? I'm planning on buying more sock yarn tomorrow with Liz and Mo to guide me. I am not thrilled with these socks, but I really enjoyed knitting them (very portable project, not too technically challenging for bringing along to the park or a knitting group, good TV knitting, great travel project ...).

I used the 2x2 rib pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch.

And here are some felted booties for a baby that has joined us on this wild ride ...

Pre-felting

Post-felting (having a communion with the clematis)

I loved doing these so much I'm about to felt some green ones with purple trim for another little one who joined our human race this past week. The pattern is from Felted Knits by Beverly Galeskas. I am enjoying using the felting projects as a fix for the quick project jones ...

You did a good job with your first socks. I love those little booties. They're so sweet.

Good for you for finishing them socks -- but how frustrating that they're STILL not quite what you'd hoped, huh? Hope you find The Magic Sock Yarn.

And the booties: Awwwwwwwwww! Lucky babies.

I have heard some other people not liking the Wild foote as well. What about it did you not like? I haven't used it but it exists in my stash. I am using Koigu PPPM now and enjoy the roundness of the yarn and how soft it is. I also like Lornas Laces, however if pooling bothers you it may not be the best. I like the fabric from Trekking but find it is a splitty yarn so I find knitting with it slow.
Have fun yarn shopping

Congrats on your 1st pair!!!

I have used wildfoote before for some kids socks (on size 1's)-- they softened up quite a bit in thwe washer/dryer, and are a fav pair of mine to stick on kiddo's feet for as well as they've held up and held a pattern (chutes & ladders cabled toddler socks).

The thing I didn't like about the WF was how twisty it was knitting from the skein.

Good lukc & congrats again!

Yes, Aija, I was told that if I washed them, the "ropey-ness" would soften up a bit -- thanks for the advice Liz! I am going to do that tomorrow and see if there is improvement ...
